Stewardship and Finance

Stewardship is an important function in the life of a church.  Although “money” may be the first thing that comes to mind when the word stewardship is mentioned, the term encompasses so much more than that.  Stewardship is a way of life for each Christian person, family and congregation.  Stewardship calls for an integration between our faith and the way we live our lives.  Stewardship is a mindset, a culture and a discipline that can never be contained in an annual fall financial drive.

Stewardship is the way in which we use all of the resources that God has entrusted to our care so that we can love God and our neighbor.  Stewardship is about love.

The Feast Of Victory Stewardship Core Team is mindful of all the various ways that we can show our love and gratitude to God.  Some of the Stewardship sponsored activities are financially focused and some are not.  Here is a general list of Stewardship events:

Time & Talent Sunday

This event takes place in the spring (May).  Prior to this Sunday, the Stewardship team revises and distributes the Time & Talent Booklet to all FOV members.  All members are asked to prayerfully consider signing up for one or more of the tasks and activities listed in the booklet.  Once the booklets are returned on Time & Talent Sunday, the team collects and tabulates the results.

Consecration Sunday

In general, ELCA churches hold an annual financial response during the fall (October).  The same holds true for FOV.  Consecration Sunday activities revolve around financial giving, or tithing.  In the Stewardship committee’s timeline, preparations for Consecration Sunday are more time consuming than other activities throughout the year. In the three weeks prior to Consecration Sunday, the stewardship committee coordinates various activities, such as:  Temple Talks, skits, newsletter articles, preparing and mailing an informative letter with the pledge cards, and planning a breakfast or snack for the congregation on Consecration Sunday.

Additional activities:

The Stewardship Core Team Leader also takes part in the following activities:

  • Serves as an active member of the FOV Endowment Fund committee.
  • Orders and helps distribute offering envelopes.
