In Memory of our Friend, Heather

Celebration of Life Saturday, June 15, 2024

Heather Anne Quick, 67, of Traverse City, sprouted wings and was called back to God on December 15, 2023. Heather was born February 12, 1956, to Ken and Marianne Rowell of Madison Heights, Michigan. She grew up in a loving family of her parents and younger brother, James Rowell. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, George Beckett. George and Heather moved to Traverse City, and in 1981, welcomed their daughter, Sarah. Being a mother was one of Heather’s greatest joys in life. She absolutely cherished every moment, and there was never a more affectionate and devoted parent than Heather.

Heather graduated from Central Michigan University, and in 1990, was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Holy Angels (Immaculate Conception) Elementary. Over the course of 20 years, Heather touched the lives of hundreds of children. Years after she taught them, grown adults have remembered the joy and the passion for learning that she brought to the beginning of their educational journey.

In 2004, Heather married her childhood friend and soulmate, Steve Quick. Steve and Heather wasted no time getting started on their adventures; together they enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, and cuddling up watching old movies.

Arguably the greatest day of Heather’s life was the day she became a grandma in 2010. She left teaching and became daily caregiver to her granddaughter Cailin, while her daughter and son-in-law worked. While there was much in Heather’s life that brought her happiness, nothing brought more of it than Cailin. The two of them spent their days taking trips to the park, playing make believe, reading stories, and baking cookies. When her granddaughter started school, Heather went back to teaching for two years, in addition to volunteering at Cailin’s school.

Heather beat breast cancer for the first time in 2008, and was diagnosed again in 2017. Through the years of treatments, Heather’s body may have been beaten, but her spirit never was. Heather remained positive, optimistic, and selfless. She refused to feel sorry for herself and never let anyone else feel that way either. Heather took on each new treatment with courage and strength, trusting in her doctors and trusting in God, placing her care solidly in His hands. She never doubted that God had everything under control, and that He knew what was best.

Heather was a person whose infectious smile, love of life, and indescribable kindness made an impression on everyone she met. If you met her even once, you felt loved, and you didn’t forget it.

Heather was welcomed to Heaven by her parents and grandparents, her sisters-in-law Cathy, Mary, and Linda, and her brother-in-law Michael. She is survived by her husband Steve, daughter, Sarah Hadd, son-in-law Shane Hadd, granddaughter Cailin Hadd, her brother James, and many others including cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and the countless children she has touched through education.

The family looks forward to welcoming all those who Heather loved at a celebration of her life, to be held on June 15, 2024 at Feast of Victory Lutheran Church in Acme, MI. Visitation with the family will take place at 10:00, with the service to follow at 11:00.Donations in her name can be made to Project Feed the Kids or to PinkHugs.org.
